My Mother’s Day

Today is my mom’s birthday. I feel incredibly grateful to have her as a mother. All these years that I have lived away from my family, I never felt far from them. I don’t know what I’d do without her.

We celebrated her birthday today. My sister took the photos, and I don’t have copies of the pictures just yet. Instead,  I’ll share with you what I did last Mother’s Day. It was a simple get together. My mom invited my grandmother, aunt and cousin who just gave birth.

I bought flowers the day before Mother’s Day. As a surprise, I kept the flowers in my room. I got different colors of carnations from Dangwa market. I used repurposed bottles and decorated them with lace.

I know she loves Vietnamese food as much as I do. I ordered Chef Stevie Villacin’s fresh spring rolls with peanut sauce and fried shrimp lumpia with bacon. He’s actually more known for his Hainanese Chicken recipe. Something for us to try  next time.

I also ordered a cake from Estrel’s Caramel Cake.

I did a very simple table setting.

I also offered flowers to Mama Mary.

It just takes a little effort to show how much we appreciate the people we love. Spending quality time smiling with family and friends is priceless.

“All that I am, or hope to be, I owe to my mother.”
