I love to entertain. I love it when I am able to gather friends over some good food and good conversation.
It doesn’t matter how big or small the party is, whether it is at my own home or somebody else’s, in a restaurant or at another venue.

So when my 33rd birthday came, I decided to host an intimate dinner at home. I invited about less than 10 of my closest childhood friends.

First thing I did to set up the party was to decide on the color scheme of my table. I always see a table as a mannequin who needs dressing up. If I can’t find a ready-made tablecloth that I like, I run to a fabric store and just have it sewn.

I used small round pink vases which I bought years ago. I also bought dozens of Alstroemeria, commonly called the Peruvian Lily, Lily of the Incas or Parrot Lily. They come in a range of hues such as yellow, apricot, orange, salmon, pink, red, mauve, lavender, purple, cream, white and bi-colors. They’re also inexpensive.

Since I have a small dining table, I always do a buffet set-up. That way, I can put whatever decorations I like on the dining table. I also make use of a “bar cart” as an extension of my buffet. It’s where I put the desserts or drinks I want to serve. I also bought potted herbs as giveaways for my guests.

For the dessert, I ordered these cute cakelets from The Delightful Miss Joyce. Joyce Urieta Dizon of The Delightful Miss Joyce is one talented homebaker specializing on wedding cakes. She was trained in US by no less than Maggie Austin, the celebrity cake maker to Hollywood and the White House. The cakelets come in different flavors: Chocolate Cappuccino, Chocolate Vanilla, Chocolate with Salted Caramel, Chocolate Strawberry, Lemon Blueberry, Lemon Strawberry, Coconut Lime, Raspberry Lime, Vanilla Berry Melange, and Red Velvet.

Another dessert we had was this Frozen Brazo de Mercedes by the Camara Family. It is a frozen cake with 4 layers composed of Egg White on Top, Yummy Yema Filling, thick layer of Cheese Ice Cream and Sugary Graham Crackers as the base.

For my birthday cake, homebaker Geraldine of Sweet Afters by Geri gave me a cake as a present. She asked me how I want the design of the cake would be and I requested it to be rustic and to also look like a bigger version of my cakelets.

Overall, everyone had a good time and we enjoyed the desserts using my teacup collection.
